The best way to look at Guild Wars 2, is this AWESOME guild name:
World of Charrcraft [GWII]
That's basically what GW2 will be. WoW, with Charr.

Get over it.
Members of this community have shown absolutely no trust at all to what ArenaNet says, why are they listening now?

most people dont believe in anet because of this:

They've got such a backlog of problems right now that they can't possibly catch up, and we are seeing promises broken, and Gaile looking like a complete tool with her responses and double-speak and self-contradictions.

Same here. Worst, I not see myself playing GW:EN or GW2. GW2 kill GW1 and GW:EN is bridge to the end. Got second birthday gift ,but no fun...
I know , thats no logic, that is just feeling.

I agree, they should not name it GW 2. It will be a completely differend game. A better game I hope. The current level cap and skill balancing system makes it impossible to continue to devellope challenging new content. So good-riddance to it!
But no need to be sad for those who liked it. GW will continue to exist and I'm sure there will be enough new events and minor updates to have fun for many more years.

keep on dreaming, Guild wars will be empty...
the people that really liked guild wars will move on to GW2
all the other people that cant be bothered to start over from scratch, will play an other game
a really, really small minority will stay in GW1 lets say 10% of the current population, the upside is u will sit in HA and get rank 12 in a month... (if u are some what descent)
to keep a “old” game alive u need a modble factor
example Half-life, u could create your own “mods” for the game
use the existing engine to make spin-off’s (like counter-strike, ect)
the same goes for Warcraft3 u have ‘custom game modes” and a strong competitive ladder system.
GW is not flexible enough to allow the player to ‘mod’ the game
IMO

It is a franchise that keeps me entertained without any mandatory costs besides the ones you want to make. May ArenaNet keep 'milking the cow' in ways that'll blow your mind and make you beg for more.
My only concern is to get disappointed with the next installment.
Guild Wars is dead, long live Guild Wars!

Don't you mean Diablo IV? Guild Wars was already Diablo III.
Look at it this way, WoW is now a senior citizen. If GW2 is a "WoW clone", it will be waaaay outdated 2-3 years from now, and no one will buy it. I would, on that alone, expect a lot more from Anet. They're not idiots, you know, being all successful and selling 3+mil copies and all.

At a guess, GW will die while everyone switches to GW2, i do agree that the feeling of having to start over again is annoying but could be fun at the same time.
What i do think is if they were to do transferring of characters from GW to GW2 effectively, with gold, items, armours, titles (im not saying everything that you have in GW will be transfered just the stuff that could be transfered accordingly), that would make players feel that GW2 is not only advancement of your GW life time but an extension of GW as an ongoing community to GW2.
If i knew i would get my items, gold and titles, GW2 would feel more like progression instead of restart, this would also cause me to want to buy GW2 more than just if its something new/better/improved.

Thats how I feel I dont want a restart on 1 char that that has unlimited leveling, I do enjoy switching off to other chars that are all max level and decked out for any occasion. When my group needs a monk I am one or a SS necro I am one, or warior or ele etc I can be any of those. But GW2 makes me feel as though once I chose a char and want to get into a decent grp well if they dont need that warrior there are millions then I cant switch to this or that cause I only have 1 lvl 50 char not 8 lvl 20 chars.

All things eventually come to an end, and once you have to face that reality it can cast a shadow over your present happiness. The trick is to not let it ruin what you have at the moment. Besides, there's always the morbid possibility that these moments may be all all we have left.
As I have grown older, I have had to face this realization, and sure, it's not something altogether pleasant to have to acknowledge.
But, such is life...and death. Real and virtual.

Thank you.
It's strange but that actually helps alot. I am more happy now

Btw. Speaking of memories, I love this community. Being a guild wars follower way back in early 2004 to now, has been a blast and exciting.
Its been awesome standing on the sidelines, watching a new company taking risks and following their own goals, and achieving. Its been awesome experiencing all the holidays, the great reviews, the good sales, the campigns, the pvp matches.
We have had a ton of laughs, and some crying and blood spilling, but in the end its been one hell of a ride, in this crazy gaming world.
I am happy that I am a gamer

I hope you are wrong
I Like GW because its not Like WoW or LotR ~ I like how my character looks - I like a storyline that I can follow _ I like not having to cook a pot roast or fish or make my own weapons and most of all that I don't have to choose one and rely on getting others from someone else.
I don't want to bang on an ore deposit or fight someone to get to a wolf first to kill it. I like assigned loot, and storylines
The World PvP thing sounds good
I will have to play a human in GW2 because my beloved beautiful ranger would not mate with a charr to create a charr offspring to be a descendant of
I will wait and see.

It's just too early to be assuming and worrying about stuff, we've barely just learnt about it. I doubt it will be like WoW, it may have similar things, but it's going a bit far to assume it will just be another WoW clone.
off topic: I hope that the OP was not implying that Final Fantasy is a bad series of games.

Just because it is going to be a persistent world like WOW and other MMO's out there doesn't mean it is going to be like them. I don't think you can compare GW2 to anything yet because we don't even know what GW2 is going to look like.
Anet made a great GW1 that all their players love and I don't see it changing just because GW2 will be more of a MMO style game. I honestly think GW2 will reach greater achievements when it gets released.

Never? I find that hard to belive:
Kingdom Hearts 2
God of War 2
GTA: San Andries
Every Final Fantasy game (with the exception of X2 and XI) has been better then the last
And on the PC end:
Diblo 2
Civilization 2 and 3
Command and Conqure 2 and 3
This list could go on and on.
You seem to have a bit of a nestalgic side, nothing wrong with that, just dont let it get in your way of enjoying the "new". Doing that could turn you into one of those grumpy old men who always talk about "the good old days".

I think GW2 will be a good game. but I love GW. Its like im thinking; "if GW2 is coming then GW is not worth anything"!
But thats like saying there is no point in living in real life, because we are all gonna die some day, right?
I wanted my guild wars avatar to be a part of me always. gw2 shatters that dream.
why do they have to make gw2? I dont mind them not making more expansions but why? why do they have to call it guild wars? couldnt they call it something else? anything but guild wars 2

The point is everything is finite to humanity in real life. And since you are apparently coming to realize that nothing lasts forever, it's giving you a morbid outlook on the future.
Guild Wars 2 will carry on your characters accomplishments through the Hall of Monuments. That is how your characters will attain immortality and live through their descendants. Much like people do in real life. Your deeds and offspring carry on your story and relate the extraordinary accomplishments that you, and those before you, have done.
Instead of feeling bad for your GW characters make their accomplishements noteworthy. Get some titles maxed that will pass on the greatness that they were to their descendants in GW2.
Take a break from Guild Wars and research your own ancestry and learn about those that have gone before you, and maybe it will help avoid the depression and sense of loss that people feel with endings.
